My Story

What do two women dentists that entered the field of dentistry about 20 years apart have in common?

At Wilson Park Dental, it’s their passion for helping others.   Both Dr. Mary Roth and Dr. Kate Haave enjoy dentistry, helping others and owning their own business.  But the road to Rapid City was quite different for Dr. Mary Roth and Dr. Kate Haave.

Both dentists are often asked “Why did you decide to become a dentist?”  Dr. Kate (Lucas) Haave is originally from Rapid City.  She was interested in working in the medical field since her mother, Laurie Lucas, was a nurse.  But she was also interested in being her own boss.  She was introduced to the world of business by her father, Monte Lucas, who is in the banking business.  While in college, she realized dentistry would be the perfect profession for her.   She earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science at the University of Nebraska and her doctorate degree at the U of N Dental School.  She knew she wanted to return to Rapid City and own her own business.  Partnering with Dr. Mary Roth in 2008 was a great opportunity for her to enter the field and eventually own the dental practice.

Dr. Mary (Zeller) Roth grew up in Miller, SD.  Having great experiences with her local dentist and her orthodontist, she became interested in working in the dental field. In “the olden days”, Dr. Roth didn’t know any women that were dentists.  So she went to Lake Area Vocation Technical School in Watertown, SD to become a dental assistant.  After working as a dental assistant for 6 years, her employer encouraged her to go to school to become a dentist.  She returned to SD and earned her Bachelor of Science from SDSU and her doctorate from the University of Minnesota Dental School.  After graduation, in 1987, she bought the dental practice of Dr. Al Reiman in Rapid City.  She moved to her current location, 807 St Andrew, in 1992.  Dr. Roth and Dr. Elizabeth Tarby were partners from 1992 until Dr. Tarby retired in 2002.

Dr. Haave and Dr. Roth have been enjoying working together for since 2008.  They have been able to learn from each other to offer the best in dental care.  Dr. Roth has 22 years of experience to offer.  And Dr. Haave has the latest in technology to introduce to the practice.  They are looking forward to many years of working together.

And you couldn’t find a better personality match.  Their philosophies in dentistry and managing the practice are very compatible.  Plus they both have a great sense of humor and love of life.  It is very common to hear laughter throughout the office throughout the day.  They have a wonderful staff that help make their office such a fun place to work and a fun place for patients to receive dental care.  One of their patients once said “Visiting Wilson Park Dental is like visiting with your friends in the kitchen.”   Another said “as a person who has had many, many, many fillings, I will attest to the fact that this was the best filling I have ever had.  It was pain free and very quick.”

We are looking forward to meeting you and helping you with your dental care.
